The Astons put their best feet forward for charity run
Creative Tiles and Laminates’ Company Director Peter Aston and Marketing Manager Susan Aston are preparing to run The Great Midlands Fun Run on Sunday 2nd June 2013. They will be running in aid of the Brain Tumour Research charity after Peter’s cousin Simon Turton tragically lost his life to a brain tumour in 2011.
“Simon was only 36 with a young daughter, so losing him hit our close knit family very hard. Amazingly, more people die under 40 of a brain tumour than any other cancer but it remains one of the most underfunded areas of research. We hope that in our own little way we can help by raising money for this deserving cause and to raise awareness” explained Peter.
The Great Midlands Fun Run began in 2003 so far raising in excess of £1.5m for over 300 charities, voluntary organisations and community interest groups. The 8.5 mile (13.679 km) route around Sutton Coldfield includes a 4.5 miles stretch through Sutton Park and incorporates the notorious ‘Cardiac Hill’.
Although this will be the third time running the event, both are aiming to cut their times from previous years. Susan Aston commented “Training has been mixed this year with the poor weather but we are confident that we have enough miles in our legs to get us to the finish line in a good time”.
